Day 4

Another good night’s sleep, but it was extremely cold because there were NO CLOUDS!!! In fact today we saw the sun shining all day.

Hill walking, canoeing, bush craft and orienteering were the activities for the day.

Hill Walk

The hill walk this time actually did take about 4 hours. We started walking towards the hill at 9:30

And we got back to the camp at 13:00 (just in time for lunch). As we were walking up we discovered some of the local wildlife; horses, sheep and hedgehogs. The views at the top were phenomenally good. As we spotted the canoeing group down on the lake we thought how nice it was to not be wet for a change.

Bush Craft

We started off trying to build a shelter by tying a sheet to the trees, so if we are every stranded in the forest with nothing but a sheet, some ropes and some tent pegs, we will be ready for it. We then tried our hand at making fire using a steel and flint. We all managed to get the “fluffy stuff” to burn, but couldn’t quite manage to do it with the sticks. Not really surprising considering the wet weather we had been having.

Orienteering

Given a picture of something on the site, we had to go and find it and then come back to show the leader where it was on the map. The reward for our efforts? Another picture! Fifteen pictures later, we were totally exhausted, hardly able to move and aching all over. We were certainly ready for our dinner (after a game of football of course).

Acorns Got Talent

The evening entertainment was provided by us this time, with card tricks, songs, dancing, guitar playing, impressions and of course a MOO-OFF.
